Spotify is gearing up for a big year. Already, we announced the rollout of our new subscription service, Spotify HiFi, which is one of the biggest changes coming to our Spotify family in 2021. But we also have additional updates and features coming through the funnel, like more features for creators and new content deals.

But more about Spotify HiFi.

We made the official announcement during our online event, Stream On, on February 22nd. For quite some time now, our artists and listeners have been telling us how important sound quality is to them when they’re creating and listening to music or podcasts. We couldn’t agree more. While we have always strived to offer exceptional sound quality to our fans, subscribers, and roster of artists and content creators, we wanted to do more.

By upgrading our sound quality, Spotify HiFi allows listeners to hear music and podcasts like they were intended to sound. Our new subscription service will launch later this year, but will only be available to Spotify Premium users in certain global markets at first. Here are four things Spotify Premium subscribers should know about Spotify HiFi.

  1. High-quality music streaming is one of the top requested updates artists and listeners have wanted for quite some time now. And we’re excited to finally be able to give it to them.
  2. This new service will offer a CD-quality, lossless audio format to your device and your Spotify-enabled speakers. This means that listeners will now be able to experience music and podcasts that are more clear and in-depth than ever before.
  3. We’re currently in the process of working with some of the world’s top speaker manufacturers to make Spotify HiFi accessible to our current subscribers, as well as a growing number of music lovers across the globe.
  4. Spotify HiFi is just another offering that allows our listeners to enjoy a seamless user experience while having control over how and when they enjoy their favorite tracks.

There are still some aspects of Spotify HiFi that are up in the air. We expect this new service to be available later this year, but a hard launch date has not been released to the public yet. We also haven’t officially released how much it will cost to access Spotify HiFi. This new service will cost more than our Premium subscriptions by themselves, as we consider it to be a Premium ‘add-on’, but the exact price for consumers will vary depending on the market they’re in.

If you want to learn more about the importance of high-quality audio not only for fans, but for creators themselves, Billie Eilish and record producer FINNEAS also shared their own insight into this new service as well. You can watch the full clip on Youtube here.

As we continue to improve and expand our offerings, we are excited to continue offering you the best listening experience possible.
